Pastificio_arch #1

04 May - 05 May 2013
A project by Marcello Smarrelli curated by STRATO

VIETATO L’INGRESSO (NO ENTRY) – by HANASI DESIGN

The relationship between the Pastificio Cerere Foundation and its surrounding territory – particularly the San Lorenzo neighbourhood – reaffirmed itself in the decision to establish, by means of Pastificio_arch, an ongoing enquiry into issues in architecture. The 2013 edition of the project, which was conceived by Marcello Smarelli, was curated by STRATO/Martino Fraschetti_Maria Clara Ghia_Vincenzo Tattolo, who proposed the theme FIND YOUR CORNER, 2.5 x 5. For the duration of a day, the ground surface occupied by a car (2.5 x 5 are the standard dimensions of a parking space) was transformed by the Pastificio_arch projects and thus given back to the neighbourhood.

The HANASI DESIGN studio transformed the parking area into a secret object endowed with strong symbolic value: a mysterious parallelepiped, an open but scarcely accessible sensual space where citizens could meet and enjoy the story of the city. The internal space was illuminated by three “BERSABEA” lamps, each one composed of twelve pentagons and various hexagons, which contained as many photographic images of the San Lorenzo neighbourhood. The photographic project, curated by Ottavio Celestino and realized by the students of the ISFCI (Istituto Superiore di Fotografia e Comunicazione Integrata), recounted the public space –  its transformation, its violation, its crossing – in order to restore a vision of what it is that makes the San Lorenzo neighbourhood unique.
