Claudia Taratufolo was born in Matera in 2004. In 2023, she moved to Rome, where she is currently enrolled in the Sculpture and Installation program at RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts. She further enriched her education with a study period in Hamburg at HFBK, where she deepened her artistic practice and sensibility. Her work has been presented in various Italian and international venues, including MAXXI in Rome, Temple University Rome, the Egyptian Academy, Galleria Maroncelli in Milan, and Frise Künstler*innenhaus in Hamburg.
Her research originates from an investigation of the territory of Matera and the Murgia, understood as spaces of historical and cultural stratification. Particular attention is given to the relationship between religion and magical rituality in Lucanian tradition, seen as practices in which the sacred manifests through constantly shifting forms. Through drawing, sculpture, and installation, her work takes shape as an exploration of the landscape conceived as an archive, where material and immaterial traces are deposited and reactivated. This leads to a reflection on the relationship between territory and sacredness, in which space becomes a field for the construction of meaning.
