Arianna Pontil Ceste was born in Rome in 2004, where she is currently studying Painting and Visual Arts at NABA – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti. Raised in Italy but culturally shaped online—with TikTok America as her primary point of reference—she inhabits and observes digital spaces under the identity that one girl with pink hair, the name by which she is known on social media (@that1artistwithpinkhair on TikTok, @thatoneartistwithpinkhair on Instagram).
Her research emerges from a condition of dual belonging—both geographic and digital—which allows her to grasp the dynamics and iconographies of internet culture with the critical distance of someone who inhabits it without being fully part of it. Through painting, video, and the direct use of the platforms themselves, she dissects the online landscape and crystallizes viral moments, uncovering deeper meanings within chronically online culture and rendering them tangible. The digitized content she captures thus exists in a different time and space, revealing its intrinsic conceptual charge—one that the speed of the algorithm usually prevents us from perceiving. By analyzing Gen Z trends and iconography and employing a practice of self-insert, her digital ethnography examines the nature of the online self, connects disparate elements, and disrupts the flow of the algorithm, bringing to light the cultural and political implications of these phenomena, observed as a paradigm through which to interpret the contemporary.
